The Motor/Cycle Arts Foundation is a non-profit organization committed to supporting higher education for talented and underserved youth. We provide STEM educational opportunities to support the creation of a more sustainable future, and give youth the opportunity to grow within their native genius, and foster community-building globally.
STEM Scholarship Grant Awards
Provide financial assistance and scholarships to empower youth who demonstrate initiative and innovation in mobility, solar energy, and technological solutions. These scholarships support young individuals addressing challenges faced by themselves or their communities through unique, insightful, and creative approaches that leverage local and available resources. Examples of such initiatives include developing solar-powered appliances for areas with unreliable electricity, creating solar-powered vehicles, and designing wireless audio systems. Our goal is to bridge the gap between talent and access to higher education, particularly in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), fostering the next generation of changemakers and problem-solvers.
Create community nationally and globally
Support for the education of promising youth creates avenues for building lifelong connections among like-minded students who might otherwise never meet, with benefits to all.
Projects that promote sustainability, green energy & the arts
Provide funding for creative projects that promote a sustainable future in areas such as renewable energy, recycling, water conservation and environmental stewardship. These initiatives aim to apply creative solutions to address critical environmental challenges. Funding for such projects encourages innovation and community engagement, inspiring youth to explore eco-friendly solutions and adopt sustainable practices. By integrating the arts into these efforts, these projects not only advance technical and scientific goals but also foster cultural awareness and creativity, helping to communicate the importance of sustainability in ways that resonate deeply with diverse audiences.

About
Samuel Aboagye has worldwide recognition for the unique designs he’s built since middle school: his solar-powered fan, vacuum cleaner, ‘Veronica bucket’ washing machine, and his remarkable Solar Scooter and Solar Rickshaw. Samuel’s inventions are the work of ingenuity and persistence, built almost entirely from scrap and salvaged materials. His Solar Scooter and Solar Rickshaw made their US debut in The Motor/Cycle Arts Foundation’s exhibit, ‘Electric Revolutionaries’ at the Petersen Automotive Museum, celebrating the world’s most innovative EV designers.
Results
The MAF sent a team of filmmakers (Dan Green and Greg Hatton) to meet Samuel and document his world. MAF staff (Greg Hatton and Nadia Amer) presented our film ‘Samuel Aboagye – Electric Revolutionary’ at the Creative Offsite Marrakesh design conference in February 2023. Our film and Samuel’s story earned him a full scholarship for a remote Design course at Art Center College in Pasadena, plus a computer and weekly mentoring sessions. Samuel is on his way!
